Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator

The Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator is an Armenian Apostolic Church which was established on November 25, 1834 in Komotini. The presence of the Armenians in Komotini is historically known and the existence of the church confirms it, highlighting the importance of this community in the cultural mosaic of the city. Today, the district where the church is located bears the place name “Armenio”. Back then, there was a plague epidemic in Komotini and the church became a vow to St. Iakovos, causing the plague to pass.

We built this website with love, in order to promote our homeland and give the opportunity for the people who also love our city to be able to show to the rest of the world how fun and interesting can be to live in or visit Komotini.
