Every year, on May 14th, the city of Komotini commemorates one of the most important moments in its history — the liberation of the city in 1920 and its official union with Greece.
With respect and heartfelt emotion, the city celebrates this historic milestone through a rich program of cultural events, concerts, traditional dances, and community activities, which take place over the course of approximately two weeks.
The celebrations begin with the traditional “Patinada”, a lively musical and dance procession through the streets of the city. The sound of the Thracian bagpipes (gaida) sets the rhythm, creating a festive atmosphere filled with music, singing, and dancing.
The festivities culminate on May 14th with the grand student and military parade in the city center.
We invite you to celebrate with us!
